Annual Sunflower Planting

We are Blooming Inclusiveness with our Annual Sunflower Planting

Why Sunflowers?

Annual Sunflower Planting for Our Families

At Laila’s Gift each year we plant sunflowers to symbolize strength, inclusion, and resilience. Continuing in 2026, we are excited to carry forward this tradition through our Annual Sunflower Planting—an annual event that brings together our sunflower families to celebrate growth, connection, and shared courage.

Why Sunflowers?

Sunflowers are more than just beautiful blossoms:

  • They reach toward the light, even when facing adversity— they represent strength.
  • Every flower is unique— just as every individual is— embodying inclusion.
  • Even when storms come, sunflowers keep growing— a reminder of resilience.
  • Around the world, sunflowers are becoming embraced as a symbol for hidden disabilities, recognizing that many challenges are unseen—yet worth honoring and supporting.

Adopt-a-Park Partnership — Harford County

We are thrilled to announce that we are now part of the Adopt-a-Park Program in Harford County! In 2026 our sunflower plantings will take place at Edgeley Grove Park in Harford County. This landmark provides a beautiful, accessible location where families, friends, caregivers, and community members can come together, plant seeds, and watch them flourish.

For Families Far and Near

Not all our sunflower families are local to Maryland—and that’s okay. If you’re not nearby, you can still participate:

  • Submit a name to us, and we will lovingly plant sunflower seeds on your behalf.
  • Whether you want to honor someone, share your story, or just be part of the community—your sunflower will grow with you in spirit.

The Blooming Inclusiveness™ Grant

Each year, we honor one family with a Blooming Inclusiveness™ grant from our partner, Zigglebee®, celebrating the unique life of their beloved child and the everlasting impact they leave behind. Just as we plant sunflowers in their memory, these blooms stand tall as living symbols of resilience, love, and the light their child continues to shine into the world.

If you are a Sunflower Family—or know a Sunflower Family—who could benefit from the Blooming Inclusiveness™ grant, we invite you to submit a form. Grants range from $250–$500 and may be used to help meet family needs.
